Gus material list

I find myself frequently looking this up so here's a clip from the Red Dead Wiki about Gus.

More Archaeology woes...

This profession is so slow to grind out. Coupled with the fact that to get the items that you want, you have to survey areas that do not give you skill. I'm up to the 900s but it is so slow after that; especially since the areas that give you a skill change weekly in BFA. So, you are stuck with one race for an entire week. It would be nice if that changed with dailies.

On the plus side, the Tol'vir Hierroglyphics that you can get from trading Restored Artifacts are currently selling for 6k each.

Here are the items you can get from Archaeology.

Easy Warcraft Ringtones

While being AFK on my new hunter, I noticed the periodic howl of my hound pet in the background that seemed like a great ringtone. It didn't take long for m to figure this out and I thought I'd share.

First, go to https://www.wowhead.com/sounds/ and download the sound in question. There is a rather nice search function to narrow things down.

Next, go to one of the many online converter sites and convert the file to the M4R format. Some of them have a daily limit but there are many that seem to work. I used this one. https://www.online-convert.com/

Next, open the GarageBand and import the file.

Here are the instructions from Apple Insider in case they go missing from this site. https://appleinsider.com/inside/ios-17/tips/how-to-create-custom-ringtones-in-ios-17

Craft a ringtone using GarageBand on a Mac. After finishing, select "Share" followed by "Project to GarageBand for iOS." Or, connect the iPhone to the Mac with a cable, then drag and drop the .m4r file in Finder into the Garageband folder under the Files tab.

Assign a suitable name to the project and save it in iCloud Drive by hitting "Save."

On the iPhone, launch GarageBand. Press the downward-pointing arrow at the top left, followed by "My Songs."

Click "Browse" and locate the stored project in iCloud Drive. Press and hold the project, then choose "Share."

In the "Share Song" menu, opt for "Ringtone." Enter the ringtone's name and hit "Export."

Navigate to "Settings" and go to "Sound & Haptics." Then, press "Ringtone" and pick the newly created custom ringtone.

Now every time I get a calendar appointment reminder, my Hyena lets me know.

Data for Azeroth

Data for Azeroth is a great new (to me) site where you can compare and look up just about everything on data from Warcraft. I may have to update the profiles on the right to link there instead of the Battle.net profiles. While looking up titles and achievements I found that an old character had the "Sergent Major" title along with an old Yellow Brewfest Stein. What a great resource for Warcraft data. Give it a shot and see what you can find.

Name Generation

I've always been a fan of having other people do good work for you so here is a great online name generator.

Online Name Generator

It does nick-names, character-names, even random project names for those dreaded but un-named projects at work that tend to go on and on for years without end.

EPIC Maelstrom

This is pretty funny. I must say that is one reason I've played Wow for so long. The developers really have a good sense of humor.

The Maelstrom is probably epic enough for you now

The Full Healy-Blog List

The Full Healy-Blog List: "I follow a lot of healing blogs. I mean, a lot. Big or small, I’ll add most any healing blog to my feeder to at least give it a shot. I will highlight what I think are the best posts of the week every Friday, but if you’re wondering what my resources are for making my Friday post (especially if you’re wondering if I’ve missed something), here is my full healer specific blogroll.

Of course, I have lots of non-healers I read, but if you are looking for a list of just healers in the Blogosphere, I imagine this one should be pretty exhaustive. People don’t always focus their blogs, so a lot of these blogs cover multiple specs of a certain healing class (a la Restokin).

I don’t limit my list of resources due to popularity, size of readership, or any politics. I don’t care if the writer bashed me in a post that one time, or if they are smelly and a big jerky mcjerkface. If people post something I don’t like, or I’m not interested in… well then. I just don’t read that post.

The purpose of this list is to keep me up to date with what healers are saying in the blogosphere – from the small bloggers to the big ones. I don’t care if you only have 2 subscribers, and I’m one of them. If you post something that is good, I want to know.

This is a direct list from my feed-reader. If you know of a healy blog that is not on this list, please let me know so I can add them to my personal feed-reader.

Miss Medicina's Web Ring

This is a response to Medicina's Healing Questionnaire.

First of all let me say that I am a Disc Priest but I rarely have time to raid. I have a wife who works full time and 4 kids that keep me busy IRL. I haven't made it to anything outside of Naxx 25. When I do get to raid my guild has more than enough healing to keep things going. I am usually just along for the ride. So, that said, I am just providing my limited view of healing. I have done my share of Heroics but have very little large raid healing experience.
  • What is the name, class, and spec of your primary healer? Wilgrin, Disc/Holy Priest.
  • What is your primary group healing environment? (i.e. raids, pvp, 5 mans) 5 mans really. An occasional raid.
  • What is your favorite healing spell for your class and why? Penance - just because it's fast, easy and pretty to look at =)
  • What healing spell do you use least for your class and why? Divine Hymn - Same reason as Medicina I guess. Can't seem to find a situation for it.
  • What do you feel is the biggest strength of your healing class and why? Single target non-stop healing. Between Penance and Flash Heals... I can dump a lot of heals quickly. If I can't heal through it, something is wrong (at least in heroics).
  • What do you feel is the biggest weakness of your healing class and why? Mana Recovery - With a huge mana pool, all we can do is sit and drink.
  • In a 25 man raiding environment, what do you feel, in general, is the best healing assignment for you? Single target MT or OT.
  • What healing class do you enjoy healing with most and why? Holy Pally - They are great at keeping people alive when the fit hits the shan.
  • What healing class do you enjoy healing with least and why? Druids - Mainly cause I'm jealous =) I have one up in the 60s now so we'll see how that works out. I guess also because they utilize HoTs and they are hard to keep track of.
  • What is your worst habit as a healer? Not keeping track of HoTs and not shielding enough.
  • What is your biggest pet peeve in a group environment while healing? Over zealous DPS. Usually a hunter or a specific mage that pulls aggro.
  • Do you feel that your class/spec is well balanced with other healers for PvE healing? Yeah, it's improved greatly during Lich King.
  • What tools do you use to evaluate your own performance as a healer? How smooth things go during the encounters. When the healing goes well things can be surprisingly calm and controlled.
  • What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about your healing class? That we can't raid heal. It seems people think we can't AoE heal at all. Using the proper Glyphs, we have a decent amount of AoE heals and aside from crazy stuff
  • What do you feel is the most difficult thing for new healers of your class to learn? Just healing the MT and ignoring everyone else. Or pulling aggro and not knowing what to do (fade, shield).
  • If someone were to try to evaluate your performance as a healer via recount, what sort of patterns would they see (i.e. lots of overhealing, low healing output, etc)? Low healing output I guess. I don't have great gear and I am usually low in overall healing. I guess that comes with the territory too. I also don't keep my shield up enough.
  • Haste or Crit and why? Balance just because I don't have a lot to choose from. I need a little more crit before I'd be happy enough to pass it up for haste.
  • What healing class do you feel you understand least? Shamans by far. I just haven't played enough since they have been around.
  • What add-ons or macros do you use, if any, to aid you in healing? Grid and Clique. I wish Blizzard would work on getting ALL of their functionality into the default interface. It's really needed and practically there already. Oh, and a Shield-Me macro, but that's old and not really needed with Grid and Clique around.
  • Do you strive primarily for balance between your healing stats, or do you stack some much higher than others, and why? My gear isn't that great so I just work for a balance. I suppose I am working on crit at the moment but my other stats are lacking as well.

Daily Quest Route

I have started to realize how beneficial daily quests can be to the casual player. In just a few short minutes I can knock out the cooking and fishing daily quests and earn some good experience and gold. I am going to add the daily quest Break the Blockade to the mix since that is where I am currently leveling. Since I did the daily quests for Kalu'ak reputation, I know those quests as well.

This makes me wonder. Is there a decent route to take via flight paths that would allow me to level via daily quests? At 15k experience each it is almost better than following Jame's guides. Certainly not as exciting but maybe quicker.

I hope to make a route around Northrend making this possible. It would require very little thought and be possible to do in small steps with relative safety (doable from a place of employment, ssshhhh). With 25 quests available every day, you could rack up considerable experience and gold with hardly any effort at all.

This link at Wowwiki should help considerably with that guide.

Warcraft Information Sites

World of Raids is a nice one that is new to me.  And WOWDB seems like a Wowhead clone. I'll have to keep an eye on them. I'll add them to the links on the sidebar.

Addon Collection

I don't use many add-ons. I try to be as purist as possible. But some things just require a little bit more attention. I have tried the new raid frames and dragging party windows all over. I've tried to set mouseover macros but I just can't get the same feel as the Grid and Clique combo. Believe me, I've tried. And we all know Deadly Boss Mods is just a no-brainer. I think I also have a bag mod but it's getting annoying without any recent updates. It appears to work fine but there are quite a few warnings. I think I also added alt-o-holic to the list now that Cata is in full swing.

Artisan Fishing Guide

Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme
Ok, here is a guide to the Artisan Fishing quest. I hope it helps, I will try to keep it up to date. But since, I won't be doing the actual quest again I will have to go by what I hear and read. It is written from an Alliance standpoint but I am sure Horde will be able to figure it out (maybe with a little help, since they are Horde anyway).

Let me introduce myself first. At the time of doing the quest I am a level 45 human priest on the Aggramar server. I had fishing at around 175 and hunted down a big iron pole at around levl 30 in preparation for the fishing competitions rolled out in the 1.7 patch. I have yet to do any of the competitions as I hear most people who try have 300 fishing and all the uber gear already. We'll see how that goes eventually I am sure.

First of all you need to be level 40 from what I hear and have fishing at 225 before you get the quest. I went to visit Mr. Pagle at level 45 with ~200 fishing just to find him and he would not offer me the quest. When I hit 225 I ran there lickedy split and he gave me the quest. He is located near Theramore out in Tidefury Cove at location 58,60.

There are a variety of 40ish mobs around him in the water so be careful if you try this quest at level 40.

He sends you on a journey to catch 4 different fish (imagine that, for artisan fishing you have to go on a fishing trip). This are all fairly simple catches just time consuming for all the travelling (hope you have your mount).

Catch number 1 is Misty Reed Mahi Mahi in the Swamp of Sorrows. The Duskwood or Nethergarde flight paths are closest. The strand is located on the east side of the swamp. You can run along the north wall to be safe but at 45 I ran down the road and didn't have much trouble. I sat at the far northern edge for quite some time (even afk at times) without any aggro. So that seems like a decent place to fish. I didn't use any lures here. Caught a bunch of crap fish (cod, yellowtail and a few blackmouth/firefins). Got the Mahi Mahi on about the 30th cast, the longest by far. This was my last fish in the group so it goes along with my "The last quest item to get always takes forever to get" theory that I have yet to prove.

Catch number 2 is a Sar'theris Striker on the strand in Desolace. From the Feathermoon flight path I ran north into Desolace and then west to the beach. There are some high 30s mobs there but if you are careful you won't have trouble. I had to kill one of the crablike humanoids on the beach but I could have avoided him. I caught the Striker on about the third cast with no lure. I can't remember what else I caught, nothing too amazing though.

The third catch is the Feralas Ahi. The hardest of the group. Grab the Thalanaar flight path from Theramore and follow the road through Feralas to the river. You have to detour around Mohache but I am sure you have done that by now anyway. You could grab the Fethermoon flight from Auberdine I think then ride east to the river too. It didn't take long for the catch but after 3 cast that got away I used a bright bauble. After that I think I caught the Ahi in just 3-4 more casts. Not too difficult.

The fourth fish is a Sailfin from the Savage Coast of Stranglethorn Vale. I got there from the Booty Bay flight path in SW but you could run south from Duskwood or even Westfall then west to the beach I imagine. I levitated and ran north out of Booty Bay and over to the southern beach. I had to kill 1 buccaneer but I could have easily avoided her too. After about the 4th cast with no lure I had my Sailfin.

After that, it's back to Mr. Pagle for the turnin. Congratulations, now how many nightfin snappers will it take to get to 300?

Lich King Date

Blizzard has announced the date for Lich King. November 13 will be the magic day. I haven't seen a price yet. I did see another pet available for the collector's edition. It's a "baby frost wyrm". Let's just hope it's not as lame as the last $50 pet.
