Crimson Desert Dye Houses

I'm finding this site to be very helpful with most things in Crimson Desert. Here is their Dye House page. It has comprehensive information on all things color in Crimson Desert.

Crimson Desert Pickpocket Notes

I've been collecting gold bars for a couple of hours now to fund my endeavors around Pywel and I can't help but applaud the developer who gave me a hunk of cheese instead of a gold bar recently. I guess they are all in rabbit disguises after all.
Overall, I must say that the Demenis Wildlife Park is the best place to pickpocket nobles. You can easily run off and re-join the crowd without any issues. I have 5 bars now in just a couple hours of work. It makes for an easy rotation for a quick break from work.

Here's a quick screen grab of a visitor with bars since I had a tough time finding one. It takes some time but be patient. Grab the bar, run off, and come back for more (make sure to save your game after you get one). Quick note, I did manage to get 2 bars from one visitor. If you look closely, you can see that some have stacks of 2 or 3 bars. Apparently, you can get more than one - quite the haul! They appear to either be carrying a copper pouch, a quill or perhaps a key, nothing, or 1-3 gold bars.

I can't say what the refresh time is for each visitor getting new loot, only that it's not long. I make a round and come back, and they seem to have changed. Maybe I should just stand next to one and keep scanning over and over to see if it's different each time. Perhaps it's an RNG each time you scan someone. My results so far from attempts only on people with bars are cheese, jade, 1-2 gold bars.

My guess is that what they are carrying changes every 2-3 minutes and lasts a few seconds depending on what it is. If you see a bar, grab it quickly or you will end up with a random item. I think the longer you wait (taking screenshots) the less chance you have of getting the bar. Oh, and if you get cheesed, come back and try again. I've hit the same visitor 2-3 times before finally getting a bar.

Save your game before closing

Apparently, after crafting some stuff yesterday, I closed the game (PC Platform) before it had a chance to auto-save. When I logged back in today, a lot of stuff (including a book that I learned) is all missing. I'd suggest manually saving before closing up for the day.

Crimson Desert Travel Tip

Today I learned that you could press the right-stick to change the map to the Abyss so you can teleport up there even from the very beginning. You don't have to progress to Chapter 5 where you go back up there in the story (yes, there's a story).

This allows you to free-fall to a lot more places on the map without the long horse journey.

Crimson Desert has entered the chat

So, I purchased Crimson Desert for PlayStation and I have to say that I'm kind of addicted right now. I know I have bought many games in the past and played them for a few minutes and given up, but the similarities between this game and Red Dead are enough to keep me going. I can't say that I'll be as heavily invested at this point, but there are sure to be some posts about it and some RSS Feeds added to the news sections. For now, I'll be taking a break from other games as I figure out how much Crimson Desert has to offer. I can say that the map is huge and a bit overwhelming. The intro is a joke, and you have to learn a lot of the game from outside sources, but it's new and they appear to be actively patching it so that's a good sign. As for now, I'll keep at it. I'm in chapter 4 now and just starting to explore the rest of the map. I thought I had combat figured out until I ventured out to neighboring regions and found enemies with large shields and was quickly put in my place. It's time to look for a good spear and figure out how to switch quickly.

I find myself frequently looking this up so here's a clip from the Red Dead Wiki about Gus.

Christmas Music Locations

You can hear various Christmas music and carolers in many places around RDO. Here are a few examples. Just about any bar (including your moonshine shack) will be playing Christmas music as well.

Guitar: Behind tailor in Blackwater alley
Guitar: Old doctor's office in Strawberry
Banjo: Butcher creek porch
Banjo: Porch across from Sheriff in Rhodes
Banjo: Hotel balcony in Strawberry
Banjo: Porch on shack NE of Saint Denis

I'm starting to think it might be random. I'll update this post if I find out for sure.

Acoustic guitar - Alley behind tailor in Blackwater

Banjo music - Butcher creek near Van Horn

Red Dead Online Progress

Diablo Ridge
I've managed to get up to level 150 on RDO for PS5 and now I've taken the plunge into the PC version. I'm up to level 25 at this point and having a lot of fun. Of course, having a new PC that runs everything at max level on graphics helps a great deal. Some of the scenery in this game is second to none. I'm sure there will be many screenshots to come. And now that I have a machine that can run Warcraft in ultra graphics mode, I may have to reactivate for a month to get some screenshots in there as well.

Brawling in RDO

Trying to melee (fists) on PS5 was a learning experience for me. I was constantly getting my ass kicked by just about anyone. It's amazing the different skill-levels of random NPCs. Some are clearly more skilled at fighting. I'd suggest starting out with late night drunkards leaving saloons and such around Saint Denis. I found the dock workers can be a challenge. The warehouse workers near the industrial area will gang up on you and kick your ass quickly. It can even turn into a regular boxing match. A good way to get someone pissed off is to lasso them off their horse - just be careful not to get shot first.

Here are the default basic functions.

Attack: "O" on PS, "B" on Xbox will throw a punch.

Block: Holding "R2" on PS, RT on Xbox will attempt to block incoming attacks. Timing these can create openings for counter-attacks.

Grab: Pressing the "Triangle" on PS or "Y" on Xbox will attempt to grab or grapple the apponent. While holding them, you can throw or choke them as well.

Dodge: By pressing the "Square" on PS or the "X" on Xbox, while moving the left thumb (LT), you can perform a dodge as well as create openings for more counter-attacks.

There are many combo attacks and using the surrounding objects can help as well (throwing people out windows and up against walls). Keep at it and keep your guard up.

Read Dead Online

So, I've been grinding away in RDO lately and just generally not interested in anything Blizzard has to offer. I played a little Diablo for old time's sake, but it got old fast. I'll be running around Blackwater for the time being.
