More Power Auras tips for hunters
Huntsman's Lodge has a terrific set of tips for running Power Auras as a hunter. I'm not running this addon (yet) on my hunter, but apparently it's pretty old news -- our old friend BRK had some ideas on how to use it a while back. But HL goes even farther, and I like a lot of his ideas, like a star that lights up when Dragonhawk isn't turned on -- I'll admit I make that mistake from time to time -- and warnings for 'special circumstance' spells like Lock and Load and Kill Shot.
You can mix and match them all to fit your own gameplay as well, so maybe use some from HL's list and throw in one or two from BRK's old setup. And even if you're not a hunter, the addon is helpful for any class that needs a heads up on buffs and debuffs coming their way. We hunters can get all the help we need though -- HL's list is a great resource for using the addon with our class.

Pandaren Monk and Mini K.T. Pets Live
Yes, I bought them both. It's a great deal considering how much people shell out for the card game pets. Besides, it's for charity!
Well Blizzard has finally done it. After charging only for out-of-game services like faction changes and character customization, with the release of in-game pets on the Blizzard store, they've finally moved on to selling virtual items for real money. And there's a word, dirty in the mouths of some, that's floating around that some of you may not have heard or understood before: microtransactions. We wouldn't blame you -- some of our own staff didn't even know what they were just a little while ago. But with the decision to sell in-game items for straight cash, Blizzard has entered the fascinating and treacherous world of microtransactions. And if you're going to follow them off into this world, you might as well at least know what they're all about.
And so, we're here to help. Whether you've never heard of microtransactions before, you're convinced that they're the devil and that Blizzard has grown too greedy for their own good, or you can't wait to open up your wallet and get a Pandaren Monk to follow you around, let's take a second and look at the history of the microtransaction model, what it means that Blizzard made this decision, and what might happen to the game in the future.

Miss Medicina's Web Ring
First of all let me say that I am a Disc Priest but I rarely have time to raid. I have a wife who works full time and 4 kids that keep me busy IRL. I haven't made it to anything outside of Naxx 25. When I do get to raid my guild has more than enough healing to keep things going. I am usually just along for the ride. So, that said, I am just providing my limited view of healing. I have done my share of Heroics but have very little large raid healing experience.
- What is the name, class, and spec of your primary healer? Wilgrin, Disc/Holy Priest.
- What is your primary group healing environment? (i.e. raids, pvp, 5 mans) 5 mans really. An occasional raid.
- What is your favorite healing spell for your class and why? Penance - just because it's fast, easy and pretty to look at =)
- What healing spell do you use least for your class and why? Divine Hymn - Same reason as Medicina I guess. Can't seem to find a situation for it.
- What do you feel is the biggest strength of your healing class and why? Single target non-stop healing. Between Penance and Flash Heals... I can dump a lot of heals quickly. If I can't heal through it, something is wrong (at least in heroics).
- What do you feel is the biggest weakness of your healing class and why? Mana Recovery - With a huge mana pool, all we can do is sit and drink.
- In a 25 man raiding environment, what do you feel, in general, is the best healing assignment for you? Single target MT or OT.
- What healing class do you enjoy healing with most and why? Holy Pally - They are great at keeping people alive when the fit hits the shan.
- What healing class do you enjoy healing with least and why? Druids - Mainly cause I'm jealous =) I have one up in the 60s now so we'll see how that works out. I guess also because they utilize HoTs and they are hard to keep track of.
- What is your worst habit as a healer? Not keeping track of HoTs and not shielding enough.
- What is your biggest pet peeve in a group environment while healing? Over zealous DPS. Usually a hunter or a specific mage that pulls aggro.
- Do you feel that your class/spec is well balanced with other healers for PvE healing? Yeah, it's improved greatly during Lich King.
- What tools do you use to evaluate your own performance as a healer? How smooth things go during the encounters. When the healing goes well things can be surprisingly calm and controlled.
- What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about your healing class? That we can't raid heal. It seems people think we can't AoE heal at all. Using the proper Glyphs, we have a decent amount of AoE heals and aside from crazy stuff
- What do you feel is the most difficult thing for new healers of your class to learn? Just healing the MT and ignoring everyone else. Or pulling aggro and not knowing what to do (fade, shield).
- If someone were to try to evaluate your performance as a healer via recount, what sort of patterns would they see (i.e. lots of overhealing, low healing output, etc)? Low healing output I guess. I don't have great gear and I am usually low in overall healing. I guess that comes with the territory too. I also don't keep my shield up enough.
- Haste or Crit and why? Balance just because I don't have a lot to choose from. I need a little more crit before I'd be happy enough to pass it up for haste.
- What healing class do you feel you understand least? Shamans by far. I just haven't played enough since they have been around.
- What add-ons or macros do you use, if any, to aid you in healing? Grid and Clique. I wish Blizzard would work on getting ALL of their functionality into the default interface. It's really needed and practically there already. Oh, and a Shield-Me macro, but that's old and not really needed with Grid and Clique around.
- Do you strive primarily for balance between your healing stats, or do you stack some much higher than others, and why? My gear isn't that great so I just work for a balance. I suppose I am working on crit at the moment but my other stats are lacking as well.

Finally, a Pally Nerf on the PTR
You know how it goes. Blizzard nerfs Paladins, Paladins shake their heads in disbelief, then break out the pitchforks and scream bloody murder for a bit, beg Blizzard not to push through with the changes, and eventually run home and cry into My Little Pony sheets and staining pink underwear. Sure enough, when the recent PTR patch notes hinted at nerfs to the Paladin class, the pitchfork-wielding and bloody murder-screaming ensued. We're now about to enter the stage of bargaining. It's still on the PTR, after all. For those wondering what the bed-wetting ruckus is all about, Sacred Shield was nerfed to proc only once every 30 seconds (essentially proccing only once every cast of the spell unless augmented with talents), Aura Mastery was nerfed to 6 seconds down from 10, and Lay on Hands is being primed to be uncastable on one's self.
Ghostcrawler said that he didn't 'want to promise (they) won't change the spell for 3.3,' but that players also shouldn't 'worry too much on the Lay on Hands change at this point' since it didn't make it to the latest PTR build. He explains in the forums that Paladins are no longer just a support class (as they were for quite a long time), but that all the abilities over time have contributed to making the class feel like a 'one-man army' that is able to play offensively, defensively, and essentially take on more challenges without having to change stances, forms, or even specs. In a rather snippy response to a troll crying (with My Little Pony blanket in hand) in the forums, Ghostcrawler simply said, 'Dear OP, Bye. Hugs, GC.'

The Hybrid Tax
Hybrids, however, do, and that means that paladins, druids, priests, shamans, and to a certain extent, warriors and death knights, will in Blizzard's view never be able to equal 'pure' classes in terms of DPS output, with everything else being equal. You may love your ret pally, and he may be in uber gear, but he should never be able to pour out as much damage as an equally specced and geared hunter, because you can switch to healing, and the hunter can't.

New 80 Hunter!

Meet Wilgrun, he is my latest level 80 character. He's my Dorf Huntard of course. It was a rough decision on who to raise to 80. Having 3 level 70s, a 60ish DK and a couple 56 characters I had a lot to choose from. It all came down to fun and grinding at this point. I have been trying to get some Heirloom gear to help in the process but used the old pre 3.2.2 AV runs instead. It only took a week to get to 77 and the rest was gravy. Maybe I can get some heirloom gear for my Pally next. That way I can pass it on to my DK if needed.
Now I just need to get into some Heroics for some gear. Being the ultimate casual player can make this difficult though. I need to map out where the best gear is and then be pretty careful on my selection. Every run counts when you're casual.

Quick Daily Quests
My goal here is to list quests that take just minutes but reward a good amount of gold. I'll try to list them in a route that makes sense as well.
1. Fishing, Jewel of the sewers
2. Cooking, Cheese for Glowergold or the wine quest.
3. Argent Tournament, Kill the 15 cult members.
4. Coming soon...

First Cataclysm Character

I'm trying to decide on my first character for Cataclysm. I'm thinking a Worgen warrior since I'm working on the Heirloom plate gear for my Pally right now. And he should easily be 80 by the time it comes out.

Onyxia returns in Patch 3.2.2
You read that right. In honor of WoW's 5-year anniversary, in the upcoming Patch 3.2.2, Onyxia will make her triumphant return to the world of Azeroth!
The patch will convert Onyxia's Lair to a 10- and 25-player dungeon, along with new items whose models match the old-school gear available in the vanilla instance, like Tier 2 helms. Additional rewards include a 310% speed flying mount modeled after Onyxia herself!
As a bonus, anyone who logs in during the 5-year anniversary event in November will get an Onyxia Whelpling pet.

I can't believe I've never seen this concert in the World's End Tavern (Shatt). There was a stand-up comedian this afternoon. I'll have to check out the Wowhead and see what other events they might host. It was a great show, even if it was a Horde band.

Mining
I find the most difficult part to get past is the iron-gold levels. This is midrange and there seems to be a shortage in veins in all areas.
Here are some good locations that I have found for mining...
- Tin - Darkshore, random - Westfall, Jangalode mine, random
- Copper - Elwynn Forest, North of Westbrook Garrison
- Malachite - Elwynn Forest, North of Westbrook Garrison
- Tigerseye - Elwynn Forest, North of Westbrook Garrison
- Shadowgem - Elwynn Forest, North of Westbrook Garrison
- Iron - Southshore, Caves in Redridge mountains
- Gold - Stranglethron Vale (east of Kurzen's compound and on east mountains), Arathis Highlands and throughout the Badlands
- Silver - Arathi Highlands, Thousand Needles, and the Barrens (around the edges of Shimmering Flats is easy)

Lucky Fishing Hat

I finally got a fishing hat. It isn't the Weather Beaten Hat from the Fishing Daily quest like I have been wanting but it's a start. I'm starting to think I'll never get anything from the daily fishing quest. Everything that I want (the hat or any of the 4 pets) have managed to elude me. I would be willing to bet I've done that quest over a hundred times too.
I managed to get 34/40 at this weeks contest. It's the sole achievement keeping me from my "Salty" title now. I can't help but wonder how many people have won that contest with no plan whatsoever of getting the title. I just wish Blizzard would wise up and remove that requirement. Only having a maximum of 52 people a year with that title just seems extreme. I can't even imagine being on a different time zone from your server. I heard some Aussies have to do the contest on Monday morning.
Warcraft Puzzles
- Why can I ride my Elekk through a giant bush or the limb of a huge tree but a bamboo tiki torch stops me dead in my tracks?
- Why can I fly all the way across Outland for 10s but flying half way across Northrend costs almost 2g?
- Why are some keys destroyed when you use them but some remain on your keyring forever?

Daily Quest Route
This makes me wonder. Is there a decent route to take via flight paths that would allow me to level via daily quests? At 15k experience each it is almost better than following Jame's guides. Certainly not as exciting but maybe quicker.
I hope to make a route around Northrend making this possible. It would require very little thought and be possible to do in small steps with relative safety (doable from a place of employment, ssshhhh). With 25 quests available every day, you could rack up considerable experience and gold with hardly any effort at all.
This link at Wowwiki should help considerably with that guide.

Sprite Darter Hatchling
- Are you an Alliance player? Sorry, Horde can't do this quest 8-( You're evil, and lock them up instead!
- Are you over level 40? I'm not sure of the exact minimum level, but iirc I did it at 42. 45+ definately works though.
- Are you Neutral or better with Wildhammer Clan in The Hinterlands (the Dwarves)? You need to be able to talk to them.
- You start off Neutral, so should be ok, unless you've killed them or their griffons, in which case you're in trouble.
- Do you have the flappy route to Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas? It's on the northern of the two islands off the west coast.
- Do you have the flappy route to Auberdine in Darkshore?
- Do you have the flappy route to Rut'Theran Village on Teldrassil?
- Do you have the flappy route to Aerie Peak in The Hinterlands?
- Are you bound in Ironforge? Alternatively, are you a Mage, or will you be doing the quest with a Mage, and can port there?
- Do you have two Elixir of Fortitude? These are made by Alchemists, and are needed for one of the steps.
- Some friends, to help out. If you're L60 you should be able to solo it, but if you're mid 40s, you'll probably need at least one other person to help.
- I did it with a high 40s Paladin friend helping me, and we were fine.
Don't worry, I'll have better pictures to help you find your way as they're needed.
The first thing you need to do is find the quest NPCs. This isn't as easy as it sounds, as they're rather hidden away, so this section will deal with where they are.
I'm going to assume that you're starting from Feathermoon Stronghold on the island, as that's the easiest place to flappy in to.
Get on the boat that leaves at the nearby docks (there is only one boat, so you can't get on the wrong one), and it'll take you (in a roundabout way) to the docks on the mainland, where you get off again.
Follow the path from the docks up the hillside in front of you, where you will intersect the main path through Feralas. Turn right, and follow this until you reach the Verdantis River.
You'll know when you get there, because it'll say 'Verdantis River' in big letters in the middle of the screen. It's a very pretty place, with a bridge and a waterfall...
This is the Waterfall...
And this is the bridge...
You want to go just over the bridge, and you'll see two huge roots sticking into the ground, with a scallop in the cliffside between them. That's the easy way down, with no sudden drops etc, and a fairly handy reference point 8-)
As you can see, it's a nice gentle slope down...
At the bottom, turn right, and you'll see some totems in the near distance. They're part of the Tauren village where your early quests will take place.
You'll also see some Sprite Darters flying round. Ooooo, pretty! 8-)
Also some bears... not as pretty, and definately not as friendly! If you can't handle one of them though, you're going to have real trouble with the rest of the quest!
Head towards the totems, and look to your left. Before you get near them, you should see the hidden path up the cliffside, next to a huuuge tree.
Go up the hidden path, and it'll drop back down to a little ledge overlooking the pool and the Tauren Village. On that ledge are the two initial Quest NPCs, the Moonweaver sisters, Kindal and Jer'Kai.
They're spying on the Taurens down below...
They're particularly concerned with the poor Sprite Darters that the evil Taurens have locked in that big round cage!
Right, we've found the NPCs, now it's time to help them! The first quest comes from Kindal (the one kneeling), and is called 'Freedom For All Creatures'.
This first quest is the hardest of the lot, and quite easy to fail the first time. I even failed it the first time re-doing it for this Guide! 8-)
If you do fail it, simply Abandon it and ask Kindal for it again. She's quite understanding.
As you can see, for this quest you have to rescue the Sprite Darters in the cage, without getting Kindal killed in the process. Just to make it interesting, you also only have six minutes in which to pull off your daring jailbreak!
Kindal is flagged as a PvP NPC, so you can buff and heal her if you need to, BUT that's risky as it'll turn your PvP flag on, and there's a good chance there will be Horde players about, and the quest is already tricky enough 8-)
When released from the cage, the Sprite Darters make a break for it in two directions. One set will head towards the area you came down into from the dip past the bridge. The other set will head up the path in the opposite direction. They will stop to fight any mob that engages them, and all the Tauren NPCs will do just that.
Your best bet for this section is to follow the hidden path back down, then turn left past the totems into the village, killing every Tauren you pass along the way (this will not turn your PvP flag on), and those near to the cage. Once there's nothing nearby to hurt the Sprite Darters, click the lock on the cage to release them, and follow the ones that head up the path East of the cage, and kill all the Taurens that attack them that way.
You should then save enough (even all!) of the Sprite Darters, and Kindal, and complete the quest. Yay you! 8-)
The path East from the cage, featuring dead Taurens! 8-)
BTW, the observant amongst you will have spotted in the quest text that Kindal was speaking to Zigglebit, not Dianius... As I'd already done the quest about 9 months ago, I couldn't do it again to get all the screenshots, so a friend of mine brought his Gnome along to document the bits I couldn't... Thanks Zigglebutt! 8-)
Kindal is recovering from the last battle, so Jer'Kai (the standing one) gives out the next quest, Doling Justice.
This is a nice simple 'Kill X Mobs' type quest, and doesn't really need a lot of explaining.
I do have all this space to fill up though...
So I might as well ramble on about something!
The Grimtotem Naturalists are the ones in Bear form, and are (obviously) Druid NPCs. They prefer to stay in Bear Form for the entire fight, however if you get one stuck somewhere he can't reach you (I had one try to follow me to the Quest NPCs and fall off the secret path once) they will shift back to Caster form and nuke you from a distance.
The Grimtotem Raiders are Warrior NPCs, and so just like to try to smack you about.
The Grimtotem Shaman are, well, Shaman NPCs, and do all the usual Shaman things, nukes, totems, a bit of melee, etc.
Kill the requisit numbers, and head back to Jer'Kai to give her the good news.
Jer'Kai gives out the next part too, also called Doling Justice...
This is where having the Auberdine flappy comes in handy...
Head back to Feathermoon Stronghold on the Island, and flappy up to Auberdine. Once you land, flappy over to Rut'Theran Village on Teldrassil, and go through the glowy portal thingy into Darnassus.
Once in Darnassus, head to the Temple of the Moon, and the Elf you want to talk to is right on the top teir of the balcony running round the place. Head right to the back to find the ramp up, and keep going until you find her.
The map below shows where she is in Darnassus.
High Priestess Tyrande's Location...
Once you've found her, click her and go through the hand ins.
At this point the quest line seems to fizzle out... Tyrande doesn't give you any more to do. However, Kindal has some new work for you back in Feralas now, so reverse the previous journey and flappy back down to see her.
Before you carry on with this next part, a couple of those check boxes are now fairly important...
- Do you have two Elixir of Fortitude? These are made by Alchemists, and are needed for one of the steps.
You have two choices here about how to get to Quentin...
1) Head back to Feathermoon, flappy to Gadgetzan, and run to Shimmering Flats.
2) Mount up, and just ride to him.
Overall they take about the same time, so it's entirely up to you. If you do ride though, be careful to go around Camp Mojache further up the path in Feralas, and mind the two guards outside Freewind Post in Thousand Needles!
Personally, I prefer to ride.
You can easily skirt round Camp Mojache to the North.
Quentin is standing by the grandstand, at the start / finish line of the racetrack. Complete the current quest with him...
He also gives you the next stage, 'A Short Incubation', and this is where you need those two Elixir of Fortitude I kept prompting you about... sure hope you brought them!
Once you've given him the Elixirs, he gives you the next step, 'The Newest Member Of The Family'
It's here that the rest of those tick boxes come into play... you only have an hour to get to the far side of the other continent, eep!!!
Ok, so it's fairly easy to do in an hour, but why take the chance, that's what I say 8-)
Hearthstone (or Portal) back to Ironforge, and take the flappy up to Aerie Peak in The Hinterlands.
Once you land, go down all the steps, follow the path round to the left, and go into the Dwarf fortress there.
The Dwarf you need to talk to is at the very bottom, at the back, so head down one of the side corridors (doesn't matter which) all the way, down the stairs, down the stairs again, and you should find him hanging about.
Phew, made it! 8-)
Complete the quest with Agnar. Remember that the quest timer keep ticking down until you've completely finished both parts!
Agnar gives you the next step, 'Food For Baby'.
Silvermane Stalkers live at the far side of Hinterlands, see the map below, and just to make things even more interesting, they're invisible! The easiest way to find them is to just run about, and wait for some to attack you 8-)
They don't always drop the Flanks, I guess some of them are hollow or something 8-), but it's a 1 in 2 or 1 in 3 drop rate, so provided you can find them you usually won't have to kill too many to get your quota.
Once you have all five, head back to Agnar again.
Silvermane Stalkers location... they're all round this area.
Hand the meats in to Agnar...
The final step is just talking to him again... I love that it's called 'Becoming A Parent' 8-)
And that's it... Yay, you're a Mummy! 8-)
Or, in this case, a Daddy, as much as you can tell with Gnomes anyway 8-)
You can now right-click on your egg, to summon your lovely little fairie dragon, which will happily follow you around all over the place!
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! 8-)
That's the end of this Guide. I hope you enjoyed it, and find it useful 8-)
Many thanks to Zigglebit for helping out.
Dianius, 60 Night Elf Druid, Terenas (Euro)
Mining
Mining is an easy business. Once you get your skill and pick just keep the "Find Minerals" skill up and hit them whenever you can. I spent a couple hours just running back and forth and picked up enough minerals and stone (and a few shadow gems, malachite and tiger's eyes) to raise both mining and engineering to around 75. I am sure it will get harder as most skills do. I will attempt to post what I find and where I find it.
I find the most difficult part to get past is the iron-gold levels. This is midrange and there seems to be a shortage in veins in all areas.
Here are some good locations that I have found for mining at low levels.
- Tin - Darkshore, random - Westfall, Jangalode mine, random
- Copper - Elwynn Forest, North of Westbrook Garrison
- Malachite - Elwynn Forest, North of Westbrook Garrison
- Tigerseye - Elwynn Forest, North of Westbrook Garrison
- Shadowgem - Elwynn Forest, North of Westbrook Garrison
- Iron - Southshore, Caves in Redridge mountains
- Gold - Stranglethron Vale (east of Kurzen's compound and on east mountains), Arathis Highlands and throughout the Badlands
- Silver - Arathi Highlands, Thousand Needles, and the Barrens (around the edges of Shimmering Flats is easy)

The was a Murloc pet named "Murky" given out at one of the Blizzard Festivals. You had to redeem a coupon in Ironforge to obtain him.
Furbolg Wand Quest (Raene's Cleansing)
I've been doing this on all my characters just because it's a great item to have. It can be done by Alliance characters in the late 20s.
Wowwiki link Starting in Ashenvale
First, head to Ashenvale and talk to Raene Wolfrunner.
It's too late for Tenoris as he's already dead. You can find his body on the island in the middle of Lake Falathim where the murlocs are at coordinates 20, 43.Name, a longtime friend of mine is also aiding the Sentinels here in Ashenvale, but he has yet to return.
He had leads on finding an item that he thought could slow the furbolg attacks on our people--a rod created by a now-dead, evil wizard.
Before he left here, he mentioned seeking out a gem for the rod.
He mentioned the gem possibly being hidden at the shrine in Lake Falathim at the base of the mountain to the west. The gem was being held there before it was overrun.
Find my friend, Name, please.
The gem drops off any of the murlocs. You might need to kill a few before one drops. Then return to Raene. As you rummage through Teronis' belongings, you find a journal that is still in good condition.
You take the journal and leave Teronis' corpse as is.
The only thing left to do is find the gem Teronis was seeking. Raene mentioned it being in the area. Perhaps the murlocs have it...
You'll have to do the research yourself, but from what notes Teronis has made, it sounds like your next course of action is to find the other pieces of the rod Dartol created. I would start by heading to the moonwell east of Iris Lake. When you're ready, follow the road and turn north when you reach a small sitting area on your left.
A dryad there named Shael'dryn is better suited to guide you. Seek her out.
Keep the gem with you--Shael'dryn will need it if she's to help you recreate the rod.Shael'dryn can be found at coordinates 53, 46. You'll want to head there from the west and not from the east. If you come in from the east around Raynewood Retreat, you'll meet up with level 27 aggresive creatures.
The treants that drop the key are called Crazed Ancients and Withered Ancients. They can be found along the road north of Raynewood Retreat leading into Felwood.I wish your tidings were better.
Raene is correct, I know about Dartol's creation and the treants in the area--at least I did once. They've become corrupted now, their nature twisted.
If your goal is to find the next piece of the rod, then you'll have to find the key to open the chest it's in.
The wooden key is on one of the treants northeast of here, near Felwood. Once you have it, look for a small glade west of the road near the Felwood border... the chest should be hidden around there.
The box is at coordinates 54, 34 near the Felwood border.
Around location 69, 82 there are a bunch of slimes. This is north of the entrance to the Barrens and south of Splintertree Post. Start killing slimes and one will eventually drop a chest. The pommel is inside the chest. The final piece of the rod was given to the druids of Dor'danil for safekeeping. I have no idea where they hid it. I'm sorry I can't help you more than that.
All I can tell you is to follow the road that leads towards the Barrens. The druids took shelter to the east of that road, but they won't be of much help to you: they were killed recently... it's something I don't like to think about much.
When you find the final piece, bring it to me and I will help you reconstruct the rod.
The path to the hidden shrine atarts at 55,54. The actual shrine is at coordinates 56, 49. When you leave the moonwell, follow the mountain's edge to the southeast. Continue to follow the mountain and you'll eventually find the path. It will spiral up to the shrine. Here is the completed rod,
. Reconstructing it was simple... it's finding the shrine that has the power to recharge it that will be the hard part. With some focus and effort it shouldn't be too hard for someone like you, who's already accomplished so much.
Head southeast of here--there are very few paths, so be careful--and keep your eyes to the north. The shrine is hidden within the mountains that surround this glade.
Once there, place the rod within the shrine... the rest is magic. Hehe.
Now you have your wand... If you finish the chain, you will lose the wand.
